Our sleep journey has been all over the place for the last few months. There were times that Maci would sleep easily and then times she would be up all night and nap all day, completely backwards. I felt lost and had no idea what I was supposed to do or how to adjust her sleep habits.
It was difficult to handle feeling so stuck and confused, and I struggled the most with the following two issues:
1. She would wake up randomly at night, needing her pacifier or to be rocked back to sleep.
When she did wake up, she couldn’t soothe herself back to sleep. She needed to be rocked again, or sometimes I’d get so overwhelmed that I’d try and feed her again. This would end up causing her to eat more at night and less during the day, making things worse.
2. She was taking three long naps throughout the day.
I was afraid to wake her up when she would nap so long because I had no idea when I should wake her up, if at all. But I knew her naps were too long during the day, most likely causing her to sleep less at night. But how was I supposed to change this up without spiraling everything out of control?
This all happened back and forth. We would have a great night, then an all nighter. I never knew what to expect and my anxiety about it was causing me to sleep less during the tiny moments I had the chance to. I was worried that I would never get this under control and figure it out. Feeling this way was scary and overwhelming for me. I was always googling how to handle her sleep schedule, but nothing seemed to be specific to our situation or it would just provide general tips that I was already trying. Most of what I found in my constant research advised crying it out. I just didn’t feel comfortable with that. Or I had to hire an expensive sleep consultant who I would have to be in communication with constantly. That seemed stressful to me since I would have to somehow document everything and I knew I could never remember writing down the times or situations.
Then I found the sleep app, Huckleberry Sleep. And everything changed. It was everything I had been wanting to help me figure this all out.
Here’s why I LOVE this game-changing app:
1. It’s incredibly user friendly (and aesthetically pleasing as well)
As soon as Maci goes to sleep, all I have to do is open the app and press the timer to start. Once she wakes up, same thing! I just stop the timer. You also have the option to edit the times. Each sleep session gives you the option to add sleep details. They have cute icons you can select to describe the condition they fell asleep (upset, long time to fall asleep), how it happened (nursing, on own in bed, co-sleep, stroller, car, etc.). This is so helpful when you see the full chart to look over.
2. If you choose a comprehensive plan, your plan is created by actual sleep experts and data scientists
They learn about your specific sleep situation through a detailed questionnaire and give you an evidence-based program designed personally for your child and family. They will tailor a sleep schedule that balances your child’s & family’s needs. You can also reach out with questions or help and get a step-by-step plan to tackle any of your sleep issues. You will continue to get assessments and guidance through nap transitions, sleep disruptions, and developmental leaps all the way until they are 5 years old!
**This section is part of a paid plan for $14.99/mo or $9.99/mo (annually).
3. The SweetSpot indicator
This is my favorite part of the app! Once they wake up and you log a sleep session, it automatically indicates when they should be tired again, but not overtired. And I can toggle back and forth between a 2-nap day or a 3-nap day sweet spot. Its crazy how accurate this is!
4. It’s for 4-month-old babies all the way up to 5-year-old kiddos
Whether you’re struggling with the 4-month sleep regression, trying to eliminate an evening nap, weaning off night feedings or needing help with night terrors, this app can help! So you could use it for years and update as your situation changes to have the most up to date plan!
Here is what our weekly sleep session chart looked like when we first started using the app during the first week of May:And here’s what it looks like now at the first week of June (with a few teething moments):
Our next step will be slowly moving her bedtime a little earlier than what we average right now around 9:00-9:30pm. We have come such a long way in just one month, so I’m excited (and a lot less anxious) about our sleep journey. There are still times where she gets a little uneasy due to teething or not feeling well, but that’s normal to have off days and moments. It feels good to know that I’ll be able to get back on track and still have a plan to go back to with the guidance of this amazing app.
Who knew that such a cute, little app would be the trick to giving this tired mama a good nights rest? Download the Huckleberry Sleep app and try it out! We could all use a little more sleep! Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated with all the latest promotions!
